German South African artist Cellz and Cape Town soul singer Kila G have joined forces for ‘waterfalls (LIVE)’, the first taste of their forthcoming collaborative album and film project, spirit & soul, arriving on 29 January 2027.
Blending alternative R&B, neo-soul and jazz, ‘waterfalls (LIVE)’ is a soulful exploration of identity, healing and belonging, drawing on Cellz’s connection to his South African heritage and Kila G’s deep rooted spirituality. For Cellz, the track reflects his ongoing search for belonging between two countries, while Kila G approaches healing through faith, ancestry and community. Despite their different journeys, the pair find common ground through music, delivering a heartfelt performance that celebrates connection and self-discovery.
Accompanied by a striking black and white live performance video, the release captures the duo’s natural chemistry and shared passion for authentic musicianship. Their creative relationship has flourished through years of touring and recording together, including performances alongside live band The Hii ROLLERS, with spirit & soul representing the culmination of that journey.
Developed between Germany and South Africa, the ambitious project extends far beyond the music. Alongside the album, the duo will release a film directed by Slamdance award winning filmmaker Raoul Dyssell, while a separate documentary explores their creative evolution. An interactive digital world inspired by Cape Town also invites listeners to discover the people, places and memories behind the songs, gradually transforming from black and white into colour as the release campaign unfolds.
Having amassed over three million streams across platforms, Cellz continues to establish himself as a distinctive voice in alternative soul, while Kila G, affectionately dubbed Cape Town’s ‘Elegant King of Soul’, brings his rich vocal versatility and unmistakable South African influences to the collaboration.
With further singles ‘family tree’ and ‘group therapy’ scheduled for January, spirit & soul promises to be a deeply personal celebration of friendship, heritage and musical expression. The pair will also return to South Africa for an album and film release tour in early 2027.
