Lil Macks - Block Baby (Mixtape)
Lil Macks Closes the Year With Powerful Debut Mixtape Block Baby.
Lil Macks signs off 2024 with the release of his long awaited debut mixtape Block Baby, arriving 21 November. The project distils everything that has made the Milton Keynes artist one of the most compelling voices in the UK’s melodic wave scene: raw emotion, sharp storytelling, and a natural feel for melody.
Following the success of singles like Amsterdam and What’s Your Name, Macks has spent the year refining a sound that blends reflection, street perspective and vulnerable honesty. Those early drops hinted that a project was coming which would push him forward without losing the essence that built his loyal fanbase, and Block Baby delivers exactly that.
The tape opens with Intro, a heartfelt tribute to loved ones lost, setting a reflective tone before tracks like See You Again pull listeners deeper into his world. Flowers switches things up with New York drill and Jersey bounce influences, offering a lively shift in pace. Elsewhere, Part To Blame and F Love dive into the messier corners of relationships, capturing heartbreak and resilience with equal weight.
A standout moment comes with Cali’s Tears, which Macks calls the “backbone” of the project, an emotional centrepiece featuring a debut vocal from newcomer Cali. Long time supporters will also be excited to see Brazil finally given an official release after months of teasers.
Later cuts like Best Friend include a subtle nod to 50 Cent, one of Macks’ formative influences, before the tape rounds out with Heartbroken and Outro, closing the project with introspection and a guitar led melancholy that has become a signature part of his sound.
At just 23, Lil Macks has already carved out a place in the UK’s new wave of melodic rap. From his breakout Protect Me to fan favourites Barbados and Oslo, right through to his GRM Daily Daily Duppy and his appearance at Timberland’s Advice of an Icon event with Skepta, his rise has been built on authenticity and craft.
With Block Baby, Macks fulfils the promise he’s been building towards: a mixtape that captures the heart and hustle of a young artist navigating life, loss and growth. It is a defining moment that sets him up for an exciting run ahead, both within UK rap and far beyond it.
