Flowlosopha - Stay Jiggy (EP) + 10 Questions

Flowlosopha is back with a brand new project, Stay Jiggy.  An amplified and mature version of his signature sound. The rapper/producer doesn't shy away from being experimental and bold. This project is exactly that, pushing boundaries with his self produced beats and interesting flips of everyday life commentary mixed with psychedelic fantasy.

Flowlosopha’s distinctive tone stands out amongst a host of well placed features from Genesis Elijah, Mac Backwardz, Patrick Foley and Vince. Each feature brings out new sensations which makes for a dynamic listening experience.

Stand out tracks on the project include, ‘Cold Wind Blows’ featuring Coventry rapper Mac Backwardz. The two varying styles and interpretations on the beat are so contrasting yet perfectly cohesive. Another moment to mention is ‘Going Through Hell’ featuring UK heavyweight Genesis Elijah, a track that blends a laid back hook with hard hitting verses. The intro song ‘How Do You Cope’ really sets the tone for the journey this project takes listeners on. The track was already a favourite when it was released last year as a single, then Flowlosopha breathed new life into the track with a live jazz version.

Flowlosopha has very publicly experimented and developed his sound over the years, honing his production and performance skills and demonstrating huge amounts of growth with each release. This project really does stand out. The entire body of work has an air of accomplishment, it oozes confidence, contentment and a true acceptance of all the things that makes Flowsopha’s sound so unique. The rapper has really leaned into his untamed creativity to bring us an exceptional piece of art.
Flowlosopha sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer our infamous 10 Questions:

1. So tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music?

I don’t really remember a time where I didn’t love music. 70’s metal bands like Led Zeppelin & Deep Purple sparked my love for music in general, but 50 Cent’s Get Rich or Die Tryin’ was my real introduction to hip hop. My first listen really blew my mind. I can still recite some of the verses word for word.

2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?

I always struggle with this kind of question haha. I’m influenced by a huge range of musicians from a variety of genres so it’s hard to pinpoint any particular artists. Damon Albarn, Queens of The Stone Age & The Alchemist have influenced me a lot but the list could go on forever. As far as artists I’d like to work with, I’d say Dream Mclean, Tyler The Creator & Damon Albarn.

3. What projects do you have coming up and can you give us any info on them?

I’ve just released a self produced EP titled Stay Jiggy, I’m really happy with how it’s developed. For anyone that hasn’t heard anything from me before, I feel like it’s a great introduction to my sound. I’m already working on my next solo project, as well as a collaboration EP with Stxnley Beats.

4. How would you describe your sound?

Different. I like to experiment and push boundaries while still providing a sliver of something familiar. As I mentioned before, I enjoy a huge range of genres and I try to bring a flavour from all of them when making music.

5. What's your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?

There’s been a couple times over the last few years where people have messaged me expressing how much my music has made them feel less alone and helped through times of uncertainty.
There’s nothing better as a musician than to know that something you’ve created has genuinely helped someone in times of need, as music has done for me so often in the past.

6. Do you have any advice for our readers who may be trying to play the mad game of music?

Work hard, work smart and be as you as possible. There’s millions of musician’s in the world, there’s only one you, you can’t stand out by blending in. Sounds corny but it’s true.

7. Are there any artists on your radar right now that we should check out?

Loads haha. I’ve recently started a show on Keakie Music for TULU Presents where I showcase a mix of underground and more well known artists, so that’s worth checking out if you’re trying to discover new music to listen to. In particular I’d recommend Lofi producer Psygon, a singer by the name of Maddy and another called Vince.

8. What albums are on heavy rotation on your Spotify playlist currently?

Kojey Radical’s latest, Reason To Smile, is phenomenal, I’ve been playing that a lot. Other than that I’ve been listening to a lot of Blah Record’s latest releases, a few drill artists and some old Jazz tracks lately.

9. What do you like to do when you're not making music?

Between working on my solo stuff & producing/engineering for others I don’t have a huge amount of free time at the moment, I like to go out and listen to live music where I can and I try get outside in nature as much a possible, especially in shroom season.

10. Name Three things you can't live without when in the studio?

I try not to rely on anything too much for creativity. I tend to smoke a lot and try and find some visuals that suit the mood of whatever I’m working to put on the second screen in the studio, that’s about it really.

Stay Jiggy is available to download and stream on all major digital streaming platforms.
