Nao - Eugene / Save The World (Double Single)

Nao returns with a striking double release, “Eugene” and “Save The World”, offering the first glimpse into a new chapter that reconnects the acclaimed singer songwriter with her jazz roots.

Created alongside musician and producer Dave Okumu, both tracks emerge from a freer, more instinctive approach to making music, built around live musicianship and improvisation. “Eugene” is a heartfelt tribute to the late D’Angelo, born Michael Eugene Archer, whose influence has followed Nao throughout her musical life. Rather than simply recreating the sounds that inspired her, Nao channels that influence through her own distinctive songwriting and vocal identity.

Alongside it, “Save The World” takes a more outward looking approach. Inspired in part by Marvin Gaye, the track wrestles with the feeling of living in an increasingly overwhelming world and questions where our own individual responsibility sits within it.

The double singles introduce Nao’s forthcoming independent project Autumn, an alternative jazz record and the first instalment of her four part seasonal series, A Soulful Suite. Recorded from loose improvisational sessions in Nao’s living room, the project sees her embracing spontaneity over perfection and returning to the jazz foundations she studied before developing the genre-blurring electronic soul that established her career.

“Eugene” and “Save The World” arrive on 30 September, with Autumn following on 16 October.
