Sadbodi - 2020 (Album) + 10 Questions

Bristol born rapper and vocalist Sabodi steps into the spotlight with his debut project 2020, an eight track release that captures the highs, confusion, romance, and recklessness of modern youth culture with honesty and style.

Led by the warm and emotionally charged “Flower$ In The Rain,” the project blends melodic rap, intimate songwriting, and conversational lyricism into something that feels deeply personal yet instantly relatable. Across the tape, Sabodi moves seamlessly between soft vocal melodies and sharp rap cadences, exploring themes of love, identity, escapism, and ambition through the lens of inner city life.

Tracks like “Ever Know” and “Cinderella” lean into the tenderness of early romance, while “Miles High,” “Love Junkie,” and “Rehab Luv” dive into the chaos and temptation that often comes with chasing fleeting highs. Closing track “Butterfly Girl Yellow” brings the project full circle, reflective, vulnerable, and hopeful, with dreamy instrumentation and poetic storytelling showing the full depth of Sabodi’s artistry.

Already building momentum through appearances at major UK festivals including Glastonbury Festival, Love Saves The Day, and Boomtown Fair, Sabodi has also earned praise from outlets including WONDERLAND, The Line of Best Fit, and ONES TO WATCH.

With 2020, Sabodi delivers a debut that feels both intimate and cinematic, marking the arrival of a young artist confidently shaping his own lane within the UK scene.

Sadbodi sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer our infamous 10 Questions:

1. So tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music?

It all began back in lockdown, 2020 ironically. I was really into rap music at the time and had nothing to do, so just decided to start making music for a laugh at first. At the time, my musical approach wasn’t very good, believe it or not. I first started rapping in an American accent because all I listened to was American rap. Thankfully, I got out of that faze and as time went on and my music taste changed and expanded, so did my sound. I've gone through many different fazes, but I'm glad to say my sound is now something I'm very proud of.

2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?

My main influence is Mac Miller. His music has always had a special place in my heart and has helped me through some really dark times. I believe he has a song for every possible emotion and that's exactly what I want out of my own music. Unfortunately, I'll never get to work with Mac, however, I've always dreamt of working with the like of Cole or Anderson .Paak as I believe they can make any song into a banger. I'd say they are the two kings of features.

3. Tell us about your debut project ‘2020’.

‘2020' is a project I have been working on for nearly 5 years now. It’s a combination of many different periods of my life and how I was feeling at the time. Honestly, I’ve never been more proud of a piece of work and I’m so glad people can finally hear it. In '2020’, I mainly explore the emotion of love, diving into many different relationships I've had through being a teen to young adult life. I dive into lust, heartbreak, obsession, and most importantly, actually falling in love. I really hope people take in these emotions and connect to it in someway.

4. How would you describe your sound?

I really struggle to describe my sound in words as it’s a mix of many different influences. If I was to compare it to anyone, it would be a mix of Kofi Stone and Bakar. I tend to merge singing with rapping on most of my tunes so those are two artists I really feel like my music can relate to.

5. What's your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?

Honestly, my proudest moment to date is getting this project finished. I’ve generally been working on it for so long and I'm so glad to finally get it out there. It has taken a lot out of me but I can generally say the mixtape comes from the heart and that's one of the main reasons I’m so proud of it.

6. Do you have any advice for our readers who may be trying to play the mad game of music?

Just keep going. There are so many points in this music game where you will feel lost or wanna quit but as long as you’re doing what you love, that should be the only thing that matters. People let numbers affect them way too much. Don't get me wrong, they are important, but at the end of the day, the most important thing for me is that I’m nowhere near where I want to be. I'm still pushing and working on my goal every single day.

7. Are there any artists on your radar right now that we should check out?

Yes for sure! Especially down in the Bristol scene. Of course, I’ve always gotta shout out Elijah Somefing. He’s made a lot of my beats and is also an incredible rapper. Also, shouting out my best mate Darkyy. DEWI and Rendawg are two young new comers I’ve had my eyes on and will definitely have a huge impact on the scene very soon.

8. What albums are on heavy rotation on your Spotify playlist currently?

Right now, I’ve been pumping ’The Fall Off' by J. Cole which is his most recent and possibly his last album. I've also been on ‘Balloonerism' by Mac Miller heavy, an incredible album.

9. What do you like to do when you're not making music?

Being from Bristol, I tend to find myself at a lot of raves as my mates put together their own events across the city. Shout out ON1 Audio! When I’m up in London, I usually link up with my manager and a few of our friends and watch the footy or spend time with my wonderful grandma.

10. Name Three things you can't live without when in the studio?

Beer, a nice comfy spot to sit in and my note pad.
