Arthur Joseph - Guarded (Single)
London based artist, producer and multi instrumentalist Arthur Joseph returns with Guarded, a cinematic new single that fuses off centre electronica with the warmth of classic soul.
Known for blending contemporary electronics with influences from psychedelia, indie and vintage R&B, Joseph creates music that feels both intimate and expansive. Much of his work begins in the bedroom studio but carries a distinctly filmic sense of scale, a sensibility that has also led him to sessions at London’s iconic Abbey Road Studios.
Guarded captures that balance perfectly. Built on jittering arpeggios, soaring strings and punchy old school drums, the track pairs textured, lo-fi production with Joseph’s smooth, soulful vocal. Drawing inspiration from left field electronic music and the sweeping drama of classic Italian film scores, he describes the sound as “lo-fi luxury”, where analogue warmth meets lush orchestration.
Written and produced entirely by Joseph, the song explores emotional restraint, the quiet tension between wanting to open up to those closest to you and the internal barriers that make that difficult.
As Joseph puts it: “Guarded is about that strange distance that can exist even with people you love, wanting to be fully open, but feeling completely unable to do so.”
