Amsterdam four piece Radiohop return with Hard To Handle, their second album and first release on Melting Pot Music. Raw, loud and groove driven, the 12 track project sits somewhere between a beat tape and a fully realised band record. '2TONS OF FUTONS' is the first single taken from the new album that drops in May.
The group initially described the release as a beat tape, which makes sense. The music is stripped back and direct, with little interest in polish. But Hard To Handle feels more complete than that label suggests, capturing the energy of four musicians working instinctively together. It arrives digitally but is designed first and foremost as a vinyl record.
Radiohop formed after Johnny Biner (guitar), Joshua Lutz (keys), Joel Svedberg (bass) and Euan Jenkins (drums) all moved to Amsterdam around 2020 to study jazz. They quickly became part of the city’s thriving scene, connecting with collectives and promoters such as Steppin’ Into Tomorrow and Super-Sonic Jazz.
Their debut album landed via Wicked Wax Music, where they also collaborated with Dutch beat producer Kid Sublime. Since then the band have also worked as a rhythm section for artists including Soul Supreme and Juju Rogers.
Radiohop’s music is shaped collectively, with an emphasis on atmosphere, groove and intuition over individual spotlight. The result on Hard To Handle is a record that blends jazz improvisation with beat culture and the restless energy of Amsterdam’s underground.
