ELIZA returns with The Darkening Green.
North London alt R&B singer, songwriter and producer ELIZA returns with The Darkening Green, her first full length release in four years.
Co written and co produced with Phairo and EMIL, whose credits include Loyle Carner and Sampha, the nine track album expands ELIZA’s earthy R&B sound while exploring themes of modern burnout, connection and our relationship with nature.
The record arrives with the sensual single ‘Pleasure Boy’, where her honeyed vocals drift across a shimmering disco groove inspired by artists like Prince and D'Angelo.
Elsewhere, ‘Anyone Else’ marks the first true love song of her career, while ‘Cheddar’ confronts exploitative working relationships. On the meditative ‘Major’, ELIZA’s vocals float over a gentle beat and bansuri performed by Hindustani classical musician Hasheel.
Eight years after leaving the major label system and stepping away from the Eliza Doolittle name, ELIZA continues to shape her independent path. Following A Real Romantic (2018) and A Sky Without Stars (2022), The Darkening Green feels like a natural deepening of her voice and vision, balancing intimacy, social awareness and quiet hope.
