FM Experiment - FLY (Single)

FM Experiment return with “FLY,” a striking new single from their upcoming concept album Icarus, and it feels like a defining moment for the trio’s ever evolving sound.

Formed at Berklee, the international outfit of drummer and producer Flo Mavridorakis, keyboardist Warren Pettey, and guitarist Francesco Stacciolli have built a reputation on fluidly blending jazz improvisation with electronic textures, funk, hip hop, and beyond. “Fly” leans fully into that identity, with hypnotic grooves, layered synths, and expressive guitar lines unfolding over intricate, driving rhythms to create something both immersive and introspective.

Where the track really lands is in its concept. Icarus reimagines the classic myth through a modern lens, exploring ambition, burnout, and the tension between striving and simply being. “Fly” poses a subtle but powerful twist, what if Icarus chose to turn back? That question, whether the journey matters more than the destination, sits at the emotional core of the piece.

The album’s creation mirrors that philosophy. Built from initial sketches and recorded largely over two days, the project embraces spontaneity while remaining tightly conceptual. Collaborations with poet Valerie Hill add another layer, with spoken word elements woven into the music to deepen its narrative arc.

With “Fly,” FM Experiment are not just refining their sound, they are sharpening their message. It is a track that moves but also lingers, asking you to reconsider what success really looks like.
