Ms Banks - South LDN Lover Girl (Album)
Ms Banks steps into a new era with debut album South LDN Lover Girl.
South London rap mainstay Ms Banks has officially entered a new chapter with the release of her long awaited debut album, South LDN Lover Girl, out now. Led by the single No Love featuring Tiggs Da Author, the 14 track project marks a defining moment for the rapper a decade into her career.
The album sees Banks embracing a more vulnerable side of her artistry while staying true to the sharp lyricism that built her reputation in the UK rap scene. Blending rap, melody and Afrobeats influenced production, South LDN Lover Girl explores identity, love and life growing up as a second generation African woman in South London.
Speaking on the project, Banks explained the inspiration behind its title. South London girls are often labelled as tough, but there is another side to that story. “My environment may have a part to play as to why I am so hard and so stern,” she says, “but deep down inside there’s a girl that wants to love and be loved.”
Across the album, Banks moves between introspective storytelling and confident anthems. Tracks like Why? and the title song reflect on personal experiences and social realities, while 4C celebrates Black womanhood and pride in natural hair. Elsewhere, collaborations with Strandz and Tiggs Da Author bring the energy fans expect from one of the UK scene’s most consistent voices.
More than just a debut, South LDN Lover Girl feels like a statement. A project that balances strength with vulnerability and reinforces Ms Banks’ position as a trailblazer for women in UK rap.
Following the album’s release, Banks will also embark on her first headline tour this April, with dates across Europe and the UK, culminating in a hometown show at London’s Islington Assembly Hall. Cop tickets to the tour here.
