When Warp Records released In A Space Outta Sound in 2006, it quietly embedded itself into everyday life. Twenty years on, the album returns on 3rd April in a definitive anniversary edition that reconnects listeners with one of the most recognisable downtempo records of the past two decades.

You may not instantly place the title, but the glide of “You Wish” and the laid back swing of “Flip Ya Lid” are instantly familiar. As Warp’s longest serving artist, Nightmares on Wax has built a catalogue rooted in warmth, bass weight and soul. This remains his most commercially successful release, yet its deeper impact lies in how seamlessly it became part of the cultural backdrop.

To mark the anniversary, George Evelyn invited Adrian Sherwood to reconstruct the album as In A Space Outta Dub. The eight track reinterpretation strips rhythms back and pushes the low end forward, adding fresh overdubs and Sherwood’s signature echo heavy production via On-U Sound. The newly revealed “Flippin’ Eck” reframes “Flip Ya Lid” with deeper bass pressure and spacious FX.

The reissue arrives ahead of a one-off headline performance at London’s Royal Albert Hall on 12th March, celebrating both this anniversary and 30 years of Smokers Delight. With full band, strings, choir and special guests, the night promises a widescreen revisit of two defining records.

Twenty years later, In A Space Outta Sound still shapes the mood of shared spaces. This edition feels less like a reissue and more like a reminder of the album behind the songs that never left us.
