Peter and the Wolf gets a dark hip hop retelling courtesy of billy woods, Mickey Diamond and producer Sam Seed. The project trades realism for imagination and builds a strange, hypnotic world of its own. Pressed on limited multicoloured 7” vinyl, it feels less like a single and more like a collector’s artefact.
In this reimagining of Prokofiev’s classic children’s tale, billy woods takes the role of Peter, delivering the restless, poetic writing he’s known for, while Mickey Diamond embodies the Wolf, bringing his signature grit and charisma to the narrative. Behind them, Sam Seed crafts eerie, whimsical production that leans into the storybook atmosphere. The sound is dark, hypnotic and cinematic.
At a time when much of rap circles the same realities, this project chooses escape. It is fantastical hip hop, experimental enough to matter but still rooted in the craft of storytelling.
The cast behind it is stacked. billy woods, one half of Armand Hammer, was widely celebrated for his 2025 album Golliwog, which landed in Rolling Stone’s Top 20 Albums of the Year. Meanwhile Mickey Diamond has built a reputation for cult like demand, with physical releases routinely selling out the moment they drop.
Producer Sam Seed, based in London, has spent the past year working with a formidable roster including Conway the Machine, Ghostface Killah, Kool Keith, Ill Bill, Vinnie Paz, Kurious and Blade. The record is executive produced by DJ Uncle Arj of Deep Fried Beats, South East London’s vinyl stalwarts, with additional scratching from Canada’s DJ Bnutz.
The result is a dark fable told by two of hip hop’s sharpest lyricists, music that does not just reflect the world but builds a new one.
