Emma-Jean Thackray Unleashes “Save Me” Remix.
Fresh from her Mercury Prize nomination, producer, multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Emma-Jean Thackray has dropped a brand-new rework of her single Save Me. Already a crowd favourite in her recent DJ sets, the remix has been setting dancefloors alight across Europe and the UK.
Reimagined by Thackray herself, the track swaps the original’s textures for full club mode. With twisted basslines, razor-sharp drums and chopped-up vocals that build to a warped, euphoric climax, it’s a late-night weapon that perfectly showcases her fearless production style.
The release follows the huge acclaim for Thackray’s latest album Weirdo, a bold fusion of jazz, electronics and club culture that earned her Mercury recognition – a rare feat, made all the more striking as she is the only shortlisted artist this year to have written, performed, produced, engineered and mixed their entire record.
Weirdo is a deeply personal project, conceived as an exploration of neurodivergence and individuality, and reshaped after the sudden loss of her long-term partner in 2023. The result is both raw and triumphant – a celebration of resilience and creativity that has drawn comparisons to everyone from Kate Bush to Meshell Ndegeocello.
Thackray’s rise has been anything but typical. Born in West Yorkshire to a working-class family, she studied at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Trinity Laban before carving out her own path with self-releases and genre-defying live performances. With Weirdo released via London’s Brownswood Recordings, she’s entering a landmark chapter in her career.
Fans can catch her in full force at her headline show at KOKO, London on 20th November, as part of her UK and European tour. Cop tickets here.
