KhakiKid drops explosive new single ‘DON’T TOUCH THE CDJ’.
Irish alternative rapper and singer KhakiKid has returned with a high-octane new single, ‘DON’T TOUCH THE CDJ’, a fearless collaboration with Aki Oke. Mixing garage energy with sharp lyricism and experimental production, it’s another step in the Dublin artist’s mission to defy genre lines and carve out a sound entirely his own.
Raised on a council estate in Dublin, KhakiKid (real name Abdu) started writing raps at 12, drawing early inspiration from the likes of Eminem, 50 Cent and the grime videos of Channel U. Over time, he’s developed into one of Ireland’s most distinctive voices, blending witty wordplay, vivid storytelling and a playful yet emotionally honest approach that nods to influences from Tyler, The Creator and Mac Miller to Irish peers Bricknasty and Kojaque.
Never one to sit back creatively, KhakiKid takes a hands-on approach across his music and visuals — even directing and editing the visualiser for ‘DONT TOUCH THE CDJ’ himself. Themes of identity, belonging and his Arab-Irish heritage often sit at the heart of his work, giving it a depth that connects far beyond the surface.
This year marks a big leap forward: a performance on the Electric Arena Stage at Electric Picnic, over 25 million streams, a fast-growing global fanbase, and a headline show booked at Dublin’s 3Olympia Theatre in November. With co-signs from Jessie Reyez and Lola Young, plus nods from NME and Dazed, it’s clear the industry is paying attention.
Hot on the heels of his acclaimed Moanbag EP and collaborations with Bricknasty, SOFY and Saint Demarcus, KhakiKid’s new single feels like a statement of intent. Bold, raw and impossible to box in, he’s continuing to prove why he’s one of the most exciting new artists to emerge from Ireland in years — and he’s only just getting started.
