Newark, NJ – The Jack Moves, the esoteric Newark soul/R&B duo, are thrilled to drop their brand new album, Love Machine, released today via Everloving Records. The new record marks an evolution in their sound, blending 80s techno, R&B, and post-disco dance music, while retaining the soulful essence that has become their signature.

Love Machine was brought to life under the masterful production of Adan Jodorowsky (Devendra Banhart / Beck) in his Mexico City studio. Jodorowsky — a recent Latin Grammy recipient for Record of the Year for his collaboration with Natalia Lafourcade on De Todas Las Flores — is the son of legendary filmmaker Alejandro Jodorowsky, and his rich aesthetic adds a unique depth to the album’s production, “blurring the line between what was and what’s next, and making funky soul marmalade and sweet electric jelly.”

Leading the charge is the single “Biggest Creep In America” which features drummer Teddy Powell on lead vocals. Describing the track, the band says: “We’ve all felt it—had love in the palm of our hands and let it slip away. One wrong move, one misstep, and suddenly you’re on the outside looking in.” The Jack Moves capture that moment of regret with a slow-burning groove that aches in all the right places.

Born out of the mid-2000s skate scene, The Jack Moves — comprised of vocalist/guitarist Zee Desmondes and multi-instrumentalist Powell — have consistently drawn inspiration from a wide range of influences, including 70s soul, 80s R&B, and 90s hip-hop. Their music, often described as cinematic, has always taken a vignette-style approach to storytelling: each song a character, each groove a scene.

From their self-titled debut Free Money (2018) and Cruiserweight (2022), the duo has built a body of work that collides skate culture and classic slow jams to create what they describe as “fresh & sweet potions for the soul.” Over the years, The Jack Moves have toured and shared stages with Erykah Badu, Ben Harper, King Krule, Madlib, The Internet, Smino, and Thee Sacred Souls, earning a diverse and devoted following.

Love Machine promises to deliver a fresh yet retro-infused experience for indie, soul, and new music heads — an album that pays homage to the vibrant sounds of the 1980s while pushing the boundaries of contemporary soul music.
