Birmingham trailblazer Tony Bontana has announced that his new album My Name will land on 27 February via Everything Is Perfect Records. The project pushes his self described “Splayed” sound to its sharpest point yet, blending warped samples, off kilter rhythms and deeply personal writing into what feels like his most complete statement so far.
To mark the announcement, Bontana has shared a new single, Absolution, a hypnotic, reflective track written on the spot during a studio challenge from collaborator Rago Foot. Bontana says the song is rooted in “a deep reflection on the state of the world and how privileged we are to live on this part of the map.”
Absolution follows Battered Chips, which picked up praise from The Guardian, BBC 6 Music, Huw Stephens, NTS and Apple Music, setting the tone for the album’s raw, emotionally open direction.
Bontana will support the release with a short UK tour in March, stopping in London, Bristol, Manchester and Glasgow.
The announcement caps off a remarkably prolific year for the Brummie artist. He featured on Nourished By Time’s acclaimed The Passionate Ones, released four full length projects including TUMPIT, Sunday Service, Home For The Weekend with his band Pay The Stranger, and The Beautiful Malaise with Psychedelic Ensemble which earned a place in The Wire’s top 50 of 2025. He has also continued building a serious reputation as a producer with credits that now include Lil B, billy woods, Novelist, PREM, Jadasea, Goya Gumbani and Cities Aviv. His support slots have seen him share stages with Dry Cleaning, Chuck Strangers, TAGABOW and others.
When he is not making records, Bontana can be found DJ’ing eclectic sets on NTS, Balamii, Kiosk Radio and his weekly Birmingham Sounds Radio residency. As he told The Wire, his musical approach is all about breaking things apart to find beauty in distortion, a fitting summary of an artist steadily reshaping the edges of the UK underground.
