Sam Wills - Speak (Album)
Speak is the new album from Sam Wills, marking a major step forward in his sound. Known for rich production and layered harmonies, he draws influence from artists like Dijon, Mk.gee and Frank Ocean to create a genre-blending, expressive body of work.
The record moves through themes of feeling stuck, wanting escape, love, loss and eventually acceptance. Long-time collaborator Phairo helped shape much of the album’s sound, and ELIZA features on “For The Night,” adding a distinctive vocal contrast
Speak feels like an album made with real care. The sound is warm and unhurried, with soul, R&B and touches of jazz woven together in a very natural way. His voice sits right at the front, smooth, expressive, and quietly confident, and it’s the kind of vocal that draws you in without needing to push for attention.
What I appreciate most is the atmosphere he creates. The production is uncluttered and relaxed, giving every song space to breathe. It feels intimate, like someone letting you into their thoughts without trying to dramatize them. The themes of reflection, patience and figuring yourself out come across subtly, but they stay with you.
Listening to Speak feels less like a performance and more like a conversation, gentle, honest, and steady. It’s an album that invites you to slow down and sit with it, and it rewards that time. Thoughtful, soulful, and beautifully finished.
