Allie X - Reunite (Single)

Allie X combines baroque with goth-pop on heartfelt admission ‘Reunite’.

The single is a glimpse at the LA-based Canadian pop artist’s forthcoming album, Happiness Is Going To Get You, scheduled for release November 7.

It intros with a brief blossom of harpsichord notes, before pirouetting through a hip-hop inspired, synth-driven drumloop. The drums dance with single piano key melodies as the hauntingly earnest voice of Allie X inflects a tender and honest vulnerability.

The opening line - 'Trauma's complicated, when you went and changed, I disassociated’ - might evoke a sense of reconciliation with a past partner, but speaking on the release, Allie X says the track is about: “coming back together as a person when life has broken you apart.”

The self-reflection on display is something that Allie X fans will have become accustomed to with her previous albums that include Girl With No Face and Cape God, but the upward lilt of this track conveys an optimism not always present in her music. It stands as a reminder of the transformative journey she is on, one that has taken her to dizzying heights, having toured with pop icons such as Taylor Swift and Charli XCX in the past.

The full project will hit shelves and streaming sites on November 7th, but fans will have the chance to preview the project at any of her Rough Trade record store tour dates, which starts in New York on October 30.
