Carrie Baxter has carved out a distinctive place in music with her fusion of neo-soul, R&B and jazz, wrapped around confessional lyrics and raw storytelling. Her debut EP Placebo (2020) offered what one reviewer called an “audio therapy session”, diving into childhood memories and her early love of hip-hop and jazz. Follow-up What Now (2021) pushed her further, exploring uncertainty, love and redemption in what Earmilk described as “a cathartic production that sees Baxter step out of her musical comfort zone.”

Speaking on the release, Carrie says: “I think the song speaks for itself through its lyrics. What I know for sure is that it marked a turning point for me as a woman, a song written from a place of growing self-worth and value. The lesson that came with this person was something I didn’t want to face, but I knew I had to. And there was no better way to process it than through my music.”
