Nick Marks - Touché Hombre (Single)

New York based composer/pianist Nick Marks continues his streak of releases in 2024, with his third single 'Touché Hombre'.

Returning to his roots in jazz, neo-soul and hip-hop, Marks drops this genre bending G-funk inspired joint filled with face melting synths and ear candy hooks that will have heads bopping. Marks continues to demonstrate the sonic diversity within the Cinematic Chromatics universe, his three part EP trilogy, where he seamlessly fuses elements of jazz, neo-soul, and electronica into a mesmerising symphony that defies convention''. 'Touché Hombre' will be part of his next EP, Cinematic Chromatics Vol. II, scheduled to drop in late May.

'Touché Hombre' mixes neo-soul swag, G-funk inspired synths and hip-hop beats inside a jazz blender: think D’Angelo collaborating with Parliament Funkadelic on planet Motown, supervised by Herbie Hancock. This sexy joint is uplifting with feel good undercurrents throughout. It will have listeners pulling the kind of ‘bad stank’ face that only the funk can bring.

The track opens with an intergalactic introduction of swashbuckling synths weaving and building into a funk infused ‘blast-off’. A slamming breakdown section ensues, with hard-hitting, lo-fi inspired drums, fluttering improvised flutes and synths that ‘slap’ hard. The track then hits cruising altitude with horns reminiscent of Roy Hargrove’s The RH Factor as they bring in the main theme, bouncing off the synths, flute and bass lines. Sudden breaks serve as transitions to unexpected dimensions. The section mostlylikely described as the ‘chorus’ sees a Marks perform a layering of synth/Rhodes funky goodness that aims to satisfy any appetite for good vibes, with the horns responding in kind. Short interludes provide brief sonic sojourns to new territories, before returning to the recurring themes throughout the track.
