Nova & SENGA - The Cold (EP)

Upcoming MC Nova, alongside Glasgow-based producer SENGA, have released The Cold, a collaborative EP. Nova previously won the Breakthrough MC/Vocalist award in the DJ Mag Best of British Awards in December last year; The Cold serves as the first extended project from her since then.

The EP showcases the talents of both artists in significant ways. SENGA’s production often blends drill with electronica stylings; rather than opt for a more sparse approach as many drill producers prefer, SENGA takes drill into more expansive and atmospheric territory than most - he manages to retain the aggression and hard-hitting nature of drill in the process. The opening track ‘Dirty Flow’ is perhaps the clearest example of this. Nova shines throughout the EP, shifting from an uptempo and cutthroat delivery (‘Drillin on My Mind’) to a more melodic one (‘The Cold’). The pair complement each other well in the EP format - one can imagine a more long-form release between them bearing similar fruit.
