Following the success of his debut album, South African vocalist, rapper, producer & songwriter Harvey Lawrence Ofentse Mashiloane, also known as Marcus Harvey, delivers his beautiful new EP titled “You Still Don’t Know Me”. Giving an accurate description of falling in love amidst life’s adversities, this EP embodies the heart and soul of the people, providing a smooth and easygoing sound that listeners can easily identify themselves with. While the EP is an overall ode to a future lover, it also examines society’s role in gaslighting social issues which Marcus himself has fallen victim to ; poverty, unemployment, drug and alcohol abuse, to name a few. He describes his experiences and encourages to forget worries to enjoy the simple things in life.
Showcasing mellow and relaxed progressions, “You Still Don’t Know Me” is a rose tinted number composed of light-hearted beats, airy synths, and intoxicating vocals presented in endearing textures.
Marcus’ iconic tone effortlessly marries the silky production as one harmonious element. He presents an absorbing conversational dynamic to his lyrics which traps listeners into a potent and greatly intimate soundscape.
The EP is a real treat for listeners as Marcus Harvey describes it to be “the most raw and transparent I have ever been. This EP is the embodiment of so many things that I live up to and also of how I touch on social issues that I face on a daily basis. I took my experience from growing up and residing in Alexandra and turned those into music, pouring out my frustrations about the pandemic we’re in, expressing my respect towards all the artists trying to push their work through these trying times. I’ve been fortunate to be given this platform to share my music with the rest of the world. This is a chance of a lifetime and I know music is all there is for me, until such a time comes I will pursue it until I’m too old to hold a note.
But until then, I’ll continue making music that everyone can relate to and appreciate.”
