After steadily building his name in the UK music scene with a host of releases such as “No Corn” and “Tango” from 2018 onwards, Lavish K dropped his first single of 2020 produced by Hannah VYo Sho”, a juxtaposition to his other tracks, showcasing a different vibe and element to not only his music but his personality. The track is a breath of fresh air, with positive, uplifting vibes in the lyrics.

The vibrant 18-year year old from South London is still relatively new to the scene and has really only just started taking music seriously. Before he saw it as more of a hobby after discovering he was good at it.

We sat down with Lavish K to chat about his career so far.

1. So tell me, how did it all begin?  What sparked your love for music?

It all started during school in year 11. My friends and I used to go into spare classrooms at break time, slap on beats and just rap. It was a way for us to pass the time and just do something entertaining you know. It then became this competitive thing, where we would always try to one up each other and see who had the best bars. I got really into it and would go home each day, teaching myself how to rap, slowly getting better and once everyone saw that I had a genuine talent for it I decided to take it more seriously and now here we are.

I have always had a love for music, but I decided to only properly pursue a career in music just over a year ago and I definitely wouldn’t be here now if it wasn’t for my friends gassing me up in the beginning. That gave me the confidence to do music properly and chase it as a possible job.

2.    Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?

My favourite artists in the UK right now are D Block Europe. I just rate everything they do and their whole style. The way they have done what they have done independently is crazy too. You have to respect it even if you aren’t a fan of their music. Jorja Smith as well, she’s dope. Outside of the UK I love Chance the Rapper and the music he makes. The way he has a really positive and uplifting message is something that I am trying to do with my songs, bringing that positive feel back into the world you know. These are uncertain times and people need to feel happy.

3.    Your new single is out and doing the rounds, we love it, are you able to tell us if there's plans for a full album and when we can expect it?

There are, I will definitely be dropping a project soon but for now I am just focusing on singles. There’s a follow up to ‘Yo Sho’ that I’m currently working on and it has that similar positive feeling. I can’t say too much about it at the moment, my manager will kill me if I do haha but it’s sick, trust me. After that I will drop a few more singles going into the new year and then release a project before summer. Hopefully by then we have a vaccine, so gigs can start up again. I’m just really eager to perform again and show everyone all the music I’ve been working on.

4.    How would you describe your sound?

I would describe my sound as ‘Happy Chance the Rapper type music that has a UK twist to it’. Cos while the production is American inspired, I definitely bring the UK vibe and sound through with my lyrics. See I used to make UK drill music, but I switched it up with this song and prefer making this type of music now as this sound brings a fresh vibe and is what we as a country need right now. It’s very unique still, all the fans love it and tell me that they ain’t heard nothing like this before.

5.    What's your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?

I would say seeing the success of Yo Sho. It’s been my most successful single to date and has just reached over 300,000 streams on Spotify. The success of this song has really inspired me and I just want to keep delivering music like this that my fans love and regularly listen to.

6.    Do you have any advice for our readers who may be trying to play the mad game of music?

I would say, just go for it and don’t stop. Even if you have doubts in your mind, persist and do what your heart tells you to do. Life is too short to not do something you love and if you stop that is when you’ll fail.

I say keep going until you get as far as you can. I’m living proof, if I can make it, get signed and drop a song like this that people love, then anyone can.

7.    Are there any artists on your radar at the moment that we should check out?

Kay2b, Frosty and Nino. Nino is this very young new artist, he’s only 15 years old but he has mad potential. The lyrical ability of Dave mixed with the melodic vibe of a Nafe Smallz or M Huncho. His music is insane and he’s dropping his first single very soon which you should check out for sure.

8. What albums are on heavy rotation on your Spotify playlist currently?

D Block Europe – PTSD. It’s one of my favourite projects from last year and I’ve had it on repeat since March when lockdown began. I also rate their new Blueprint album. Their songs just get me hyped.

9.    What do you like to do when you're not making music?

I really enjoy spending time with the mandem and just chilling with my friends. I chill with the same people I go to school with and they’re always around me to just provide good vibes & jokes if I’m ever feeling down or stressed you know.

10. Name Three things you can't live without?

Music, alcohol and money haha. Three things that I need to keep me going, I don’t need anything else.
