Recoil is the latest release from elusive Suffolk-based artist LFay and the second single from her upcoming EP LOUD MOUTH FM set for release on Wordplay Records this summer. The song's theme is a fairly ambiguous one, anchored loosely around feelings of social pressure, heady euphoria and anxiety, set against the backdrop of a free-party or rave environment - the artist is keen to keep the track and its message open to interpretation. ‘I’d like my music to be accessible and malleable so it can be enjoyed by each listener in their own, personal way.’
For fans of contemporary garage, neo-soul, nu jazz, hip hop and groove. On Recoil LFay follows in the footsteps of artists such as Little Simz, Jorja Smith, ENNY, Etta James, p-rallel, RUBII, Amy Winehouse, Greentea Peng, JayaHadADream, Samara Cyn and Joy Crookes.
LOUD MOUTH FM (EP)
Following on from the success of previous EP’s Tales Of A Dosser and Intervention this latest collection of tracks is a diverse, adventurous catalogue of styles, weaving aspects of nu jazz, hip-hop and neo-soul into progressive jungle, DnB and garage - creating a sound that unites polarised audiences as it skips between genres.
Using a variety of lyrical styles the artist presents a series of playful observations addressing the effects that isolating circumstances have on a young mind and touching on the free party and rave culture she developed out of.
LOUD MOUTH FM shifts the dial slightly, incorporating imagery and sounds that revolve around the 90’s pirate radio scene which helped to showcase and present underground sounds to a hungry nation. Loud Mouth also references a perception from her peers and the wider industry that Lydia (LFay) has ‘a gob on her’ and is loud, brash and overly-confident. This is juxtaposed with a much more introverted, anxious and often self-deprecating side to her character, which is a pervasive theme throughout the EP.
