Afro-Latin electronic producer, global-sounds inspired DJ and bassist, Marla Kether is set to release her new EP ‘Luso’ on the 16th October via Strut.
Featuring a hand-picked selection of collaborators from across her creative circle, Kether continues to craft genre-bending bangers rooted in African, Brazilian and UK sounds. The 5-track EP spans Batida with grime rapper Mez, Afrobeat with rapper Reek0, Broken Beat with Sofia Grant and a Samba House anthem with Margaridas. Written and developed between Lisbon and Brasilia, the EP reflects the movement, collaboration and cultural exchange that shaped its creation, and brings her musical worlds together into her most fully realised project to date.
Bassist for Little Simz and a regular in Loyle Carner’s band, Kether released her highly-anticipated debut EP ‘All That We Have’ in 2023, championed by the likes of Crack, Mary Anne Hobbs, Jamz Supernova and Gilles Peterson. Bandcamp Daily featured the release in ‘The Best Electronic Music of November 2023’, and closing track ‘BTR2’ was voted one of DJ Mag’s Top Tracks of the Year.
With her own live band, following performances at The Roundhouse, Cross The Tracks, Brick Lane Jazz Festival, and a support slot for Cymande’s tour in Europe in 2025, Marla sold-out her two first headline shows in London and Bristol in late October 2025, featuring a 6-piece line-up. Continuing the momentum into 2026, she gained new admirers across the UK, supporting national tours for Afrobeat legend Femi Kuti and Zamrock favourites WITCH.
As a DJ, Marla’s burgeoning profile has centred around her packed, inclusive Kilengi Dance Party nights in London and Bristol playing a wide spectrum of new diaspora bass sounds from Afro House, Baile, and Kuduro to UK Funky and Garage.
