Osaze & Marcus ft: ODUMODUBLVCK - Splendid (Single) + 10 Questions
Rapid rising brother duo Osaze & Marcus have called on Nigerian heavyweight ODUMODUBLVCK for a new version of their viral Afroswing hit ‘Splendid’.
Already responsible for pushing the duo firmly into the spotlight, ‘Splendid’ has racked up millions of streams and views after initially taking off through a TikTok dance challenge. The track went on to peak at No. 2 on the UK TikTok Charts, No. 5 on the UK Viral Spotify Charts and No. 1 on the Nigeria Viral Spotify Charts. Now ODUMODUBLVCK brings his unmistakable cadence and charisma to the record, trading verses with the brothers and adding another dimension to an anthem that continues to travel.
Born in London to Nigerian and Polish parents, Osaze & Marcus have been steadily building their name through a mix of Afrobeats and rap, with previous releases including their Stepping Out EP, ‘Discoteca’, ‘Busy’ and most recent EP Hello. Their rise has also taken them to Britain’s Got Talent, where they received four yeses from the judges, alongside live appearances with the likes of Tion Wayne, Russ Millions, B Young, Not3s and Geko.
With ODUMODUBLVCK now joining them for ‘Splendid’, Osaze & Marcus look set to take one of their biggest records yet to an even wider audience.
Osaze & Marcus sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer our infamous 10 Questions:
1. So tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music?
Music has always been something we naturally gravitated towards, since we come from a family that loves music. We started making music really young, and over time it went from something we enjoyed doing to something we genuinely couldn't see ourselves not doing. We've been consistently releasing music for years, experimenting with different sounds and learning everything as we went. A lot of what we're doing now is really the result of those years of figuring ourselves out.
2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?
We're influenced by loads of different artists because our music isn't really limited to one genre. Many names come to mine such as Davido, Burna Boy, P-Square, Tion Wayne and more. Central Cee has definitely been an influence, especially when it comes to rap, flows and how he's built himself as a UK artist. There are so many people we'd love to work with in the future so we don't really want to put a limit on it.
3. What projects do you have coming up and can you give us any info on them?
Right now we're working towards a new EP. We're constantly in sessions and making loads of new music, so it's really about getting the strongest possible records together. We've also got more collaborations and remixes coming following theSplendid remix with ODUMODUBLVCK. There's a lot happening, but this next stage is definitely going to show people different sides of Osaze & Marcus.
4. How would you describe your sound?
Happiness. That's probably the easiest answer. Making universal music the everyone can enjoy. The thing connecting it all is our personality, melodies, writing and the chemistry of there being two of us. We want people to hear an Osaze & Marcus record and recognise us without every song needing to sound the same.
5. What's your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?
Probably seeing what Splendid has become. That song originally came out without us knowing what it would eventually turn into, so watching it connect with people around the world has been crazy. Hearing huge crowds singing something back to us that we originally made ourselves is a feeling that's hard to explain. It represented years of work finally starting to pay off.
6. Do you have any advice for our readers who may be trying to play the mad game of music?
Don't wait for somebody else to make it happen for you. We spent years releasing music before anything properly blew up. The biggest change came when we stopped just putting songs out and started thinking seriously about how we were going to get people to actually hear them. Make good music, obviously, but learn content, marketing and your audience as well. And experiment constantly. Sometimes one idea working can completely change your situation.
7. Are there any artists on your radar right now that we should check out?
Ayo1 & Jedz are two upcoming UK artists that we’ve been rocking with heavily at the moment.
8. What albums are on heavy rotation on your Spotify playlist currently?
Albums such as Tion Waye - Green With Envy, Davido - Timeless, I Told Them - Burna Boy, Central Cee - Can’t Rush Greatness.
9. What do you like to do when you're not making music?
We're still young, so outside of music we're basically doing normal stuff like chilling with friends, football, gaming, going out, finding new places and just enjoying ourselves. Music takes up such a massive part of our lives that sometimes it's good to switch off and do something that has absolutely nothing to do with it.
10. Name Three things you can't live without when in the studio?
Good food, good people in the room and our phones. The atmosphere matters massively to us. Some of our best sessions happen when it doesn't feel like we're forcing ourselves to make a song, everyone's comfortable, we're having fun and something naturally comes together.
