Prettyboyface - No Stutter (EP) + 10 Questions

Prettyboyface makes a confident first impression with his debut EP No Stutter, a 10 track project that serves as both an introduction and a bold statement of intent. Blending infectious percussion with smooth, melodic production, the rising rapper showcases his distinctive vocal tone and playful delivery while exploring themes of ambition, identity, loyalty, vice, morality, celebration and humility.

Packed with self assurance from start to finish, No Stutter makes it clear that Prettyboyface is aiming for more than just a breakthrough moment. It's a confident debut that positions him as an exciting new voice with the potential to make a lasting impact on the UK rap scene.

Prettyboyface sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer our infamous 10 Questions:

1. So tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music?

I’ve had a deep love for music for as long as I can remember. My parents would play Gospel and Fuji on a regular basis and through my brothers I discovered Rap, House, R&B and Grime amongst others. I used to live on an estate in Hoxton and we had a neighbour in this ground floor/basement flat that would always blast music that you could hear as you walked past. The first time I recall ever hearing ‘Human Nature’ by Michael Jackson (I would’ve been like 5 or 6), I was walking past his flat one evening and it stirred up something in me that I can’t quite explain to this day. I kind of wanted to cry because what I heard was so beautiful. I believe that moment cemented my passion for music and its ability to conjure something words can’t encapsulate.

2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?

In my teens, I was a HUGE Flatbush Zombies fan, to the extent that I jokingly say Meechy Darko taught me how to rap. His delivery, lyricism and tone have undeniably impacted my artistry and I’d love to work with him one day. Another artist I want to work with is Makala. From sonics to visuals everything he puts out is top tier and very much aligns with my vision of where I want to take my craft.

3. What projects do you have coming up and can you give us any info on them?

I’m releasing my debut EP ‘No Stutter’ on July 30th. Its an unapologetic mission statement. Across 10 tracks, I explore ambition, morality, identity, vice, loyalty, revelry, and humility while staking my claim in the rap landscape.

4. How would you describe your sound?

Hmm, thats quite a difficult question. I’d describe my sound as very hard-hitting bass heavy, in your face music. It’s the sonic equivalent of ‘by any means necessary’. My music is meant to motivate you to get up and go but you can also bump it cruising in a coupe with the top down on a summers eve and catch a groove. Motivational music you can shake sumn to if you will.

5. What's your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?

No Stutter is probably my proudest accomplishment because it’s my first cohesive project. Its been two years in the making because i’ve put painstaking effort into creating a sound and vibe that is synonymous with prettyboyface. A lot of sleepless night and coach journeys to paris led to this.

6. Do you have any advice for our readers who may be trying to play the mad game of music?

It sounds cliche, but just be yourself for real. We’re all one in 8 billion, nobody can do what you do exactly how you do it. Walk in your truth and whats meant for you will find you.

7. Are there any artists on your radar right now that we should check out?

Lenacha, she’s a musician from Manchester, her music is honestly incredible. Xtiana, great rapper deh. Honourable mention to Rome, we’ve worked together for a couple years now and he’s sososo good at this music ting its actually peak.

8. What albums are on heavy rotation on your Spotify playlist currently?

Purity - Anysia Kim

No Weapons Shall Prosper - Renzniro

Oh Yeah? - Steve Lacy

9. What do you like to do when you're not making music?

I’m big on movement n physical activity. If I’m not in the studio or binge watching youtube video essays, I’m running outdoor workouts and hikes through my fitness community ‘Overnyte’. Im really into calisthenics and functional exercises, even ran a marathon earlier this year.

10. Name Three things you can't live without when in the studio?

Water, Burts Bees lip balm (Natural Beeswax flavour) and a sweet treat.
