Peckham rapper PS Hitsquad has released his long awaited debut album, Life On Licence, marking a major milestone in a career that's been over a decade in the making. Moving beyond traditional drill, the project sees PS introducing what he describes as a "post-drill" sound, with a cohesive narrative exploring trauma, institutionalisation and the search for freedom.
Alongside the album comes the video for new single '100 Man', featuring UK drill heavyweight Unknown T. Directed by Billy Howard Price, the striking visual uses stop motion animation alongside archive inspired imagery to complement the track's intensity.
Rather than delivering a collection of standalone songs, Life On Licence is designed as a concept album, charting PS' journey from his early days with Peckham collective Zone 2 through to his evolution as one of the UK's most distinctive rap voices.
The album features an impressive cast of collaborators, including Unknown T, VonOff1700, Cristale, Joshua Baraka, Lihtz and Deema, with production spanning talent from both the UK and US. Released via House Anxiety, the project follows a run of standout singles including Dig 'Em Up, Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda, Popeye and Chasing My Grave.
After establishing himself as one of drill's most respected lyricists, Life On Licence feels like PS Hitsquad's boldest statement yet, an ambitious debut that expands both his sound and the possibilities of UK rap.
