Brooklyn’s James Bambu is returning with ‘Bossa Nova’, his second single of 2026. Within its summery sound is a blend of playful lyricism, echoing old school Atlanta and Miami Bass, and an addictive bounce, courtesy of the modern Jersey Club production.

Produced by Hensley.Sg, written and recorded by Bambu himself, the track bridges Northeast and Southeast club culture into one vibrant experience. The record comes alive with its storytelling, briefly nodding to Brooklyn's Bossa Nova Civic Club as it paints a vivid scene of flashing lights and dance floors. It makes for effortless replayability and perfectly sets the scene for warm nights ahead.

“I'm from the south, and I've been in New York for a long time now, so it's funny to me that I haven't yet had a song that speaks to my experiences with being immersed in club culture in New York, but also references and is influenced by southern lyricism, like "Bossa Nova". I grew up in Atlanta with Trap Music and Atlanta Bass, so sometimes when there's a heavy bassline, like with Jersey Club, I tend to naturally dive into more old school ideas sonically, so I love that this is how this song came about.”

Adopting the term “musically fluid”, he puts a progressive, yet nostalgic twist on traditional R&B, incorporating pop, electronic, and alternative stylistics into his art, while consistently referencing his southern gospel and soul roots.

Originally from Atlanta, Bambu relocated to New York in 2016. A buzz began with the second EP, Del Sol, which received widespread acclaim, culminating in a feature performance on COLORS. Further tastemaker attention from COMPLEX, Brick, Them., Bandcamp, Out Magazine and Apple Music has continued throughout his career.

After reigniting excitement with his latest album, Angels in the City, James Bambu looks ready to take another step up, emerging once again as an innovative presence.
