SALOMEA - sandcastle (SIngle)

Köln based SALOMEA return with first new music in two years, led by German American singer songwriter Rebekka Salomea, SALOMEA isn't just a band, but a chosen family, shaped by years of living and surviving together: love and breakups, loss and recovery, literal therapy, extensive touring, laughter and tears, communal silence when words aren't enough. Together, they've climbed mountains, waded through rivers, created rituals, chopped barrels of wood, fed the piglets and lived life. From all of it, a sound emerged that's like a home, built slightly off the beaten path.

"sandcastle," the first single from their forthcoming album axxxis, sets the tone by barely trying at all. A contemporary R&B ballad with a heavy, undeniable bounce, the track pairs jazz inflected vocals with a dub leaning low end, steady drums, lush strings, upright bass, and hazy Wurlitzer glissandi that feel more remembered than arranged.

Recorded as a band, in one breath, you can feel the trust, sharing space and time, listening as much as playing. The voice floats above an almost dubby bass line, the groove quietly insists, and the details flicker without drama. It's confident enough not to chase emphasis. Lyrically, it's a love song with a wink: about building something fragile, fully aware it will disappear.

"sandcastle" doesn't ask to be decoded. It nods, smiles, and keeps moving. Not that deep, or is it?
