Recently nominated for the Edison Prize, Joya Mooi returns with All The Things, a deeply personal EP that explores the emotional contradictions of jealousy, grief, security and motherhood.
Where previous project Open Hearts looked outward, this new release turns inward. Drawing largely from her own experiences, Joya uses these songs to process a transformative year marked by loss, change and emotional growth.
The title track sets the tone with warm basslines, soft guitar textures and understated production that keeps her intimate vocals front and centre. Elsewhere, “Technicolour” unpacks envy through a more compassionate lens, while “Pay Day” reflects on shifting ideas of wealth and stability after learning she was pregnant. “Lookalike” moves through grief with tenderness, and “Only Water” featuring Lady Donli draws inspiration from Greg Louganis and themes of refuge, resilience and vulnerability.
Rather than offering easy answers, All The Things embraces complexity. It is a subtle, beautifully crafted body of work that confirms Joya Mooi as one of the most compelling voices in contemporary alt soul and indie R&B.
