Sola Rosa Returns With In The Mids A Full Circle Moment.
After more than two decades of crafting genre blending soundscapes, Andrew Spraggon’s long running project Sola Rosa returns with its eighth studio album, In The Mids, arriving 10 April 2026.
Across the years, Spraggon has refined a signature blend of electronic production, R&B, funk and soul, all grounded in hip hop’s rhythmic swing and a deep love of dance music. In The Mids builds on that DNA but pivots inward. This time it is more studio focused, more layered, and driven by groove and mood rather than live band dynamics.
The album marks a full circle shift. After years fronting a live iteration of Sola Rosa, Spraggon stepped back into solo production during the Covid lockdowns. The pause gave him space to experiment with new tools and processes and to let go of self imposed rules. The result is ten tracks that lean into layered synths, programmed beats, hypnotic textures and subtle momentum, designed as much for headphones as for late night listening.
Seven vocalists from Aotearoa and Australia feature across the record, bringing warmth and character to the electronic framework while retaining that unmistakable Sola Rosa soulfulness.
The first taste comes in the form of “Losing Time” featuring Muroki. Spraggon first caught Muroki live while taking his daughters to see BENEE and was struck immediately. A collaboration followed, sparked by a shared appreciation of Spraggon’s previous work. Their session evolved into a reflective track about exploring the world beyond home, a fitting theme for an album born out of isolation and reinvention.
With past performances at WOMAD, Green Man and Shambala, and collaborations alongside producers like Tall Black Guy and DJ Vadim, Spraggon has long been one of Aotearoa’s most consistent sonic innovators.
In The Mids does not shout for attention. It moves with quiet confidence, settling into the spaces between groove, texture and feeling. A record that reflects both where Sola Rosa has been and where it is heading next.
