Ceebo - Bloccstar (Mixtape)
Lambeth rapper Ceebo delivers ambition, conflict and sharp UK storytelling on his new mixtape Bloccstar, following recent singles ‘Parable Of A Skinnyman’, ‘Revolut’ and Blanco collaboration ‘Gets Like Dat’.
Built around a Macbeth-inspired arc, Bloccstar explores the tension between artistic integrity and mainstream ambition, asking whether an artist can chase pop-level success without sacrificing substance along the way. Across 12 tracks, Ceebo mirrors that journey sonically, moving from raw underground rap towards increasingly polished, crossover-ready production.
There is plenty of range within that concept. The infectious ‘Owner’ arrives as a previously teased fan favourite, while ‘Jangolova’ taps into the energy of Black British nightlife and ‘Coupé Decalé’, featuring the 400 crew, brings together N4T, Chefbkay, Syst7m and Jbiz for a restless posse cut. One of the tape’s standout moments comes on ‘Macbeth’s Soliloquy’, where Ceebo trades bars with Wretch 32 over brooding boom-bap production as the project’s battle between art and commerce comes sharply into focus.
Elsewhere, ‘Gets Like Dat’ reunites Ceebo with fellow Lambeth wordsmith Blanco over a jazzier backdrop, while ‘H.I.T.H’, built around RAY BLK’s ‘My Hood’, turns into a hometown anthem. The closing title track eventually brings some resolution to the competing ideas that run throughout the project.
Following acclaimed appearances at The Great Escape, Fête de la Musique and Reading and Leeds Festival, Bloccstar feels like another significant step for Ceebo, combining meticulous world-building with a sound that remains distinctly rooted in contemporary UK rap.
