Cameroonian Kiwi artist Estère returns with the vibrant and empowering ‘Diaspora Baby’, the title track from her forthcoming album of the same name, arriving on 22nd January 2027.
Entirely self-produced, ‘Diaspora Baby’ is a joyous celebration of cultural identity, belonging and embracing your roots. Blending traditional Cameroonian and makossa influences with infectious four-to-the-floor rhythms, funky basslines and hypnotic rap flows, Estère delivers an irresistible dancefloor-ready offering that feels both deeply personal and wonderfully uplifting.
Written over three years ago, the track has accompanied Estère on her journey from New Zealand to London, becoming the foundation for her upcoming project. Speaking on its significance, she explains: “I produced this one on my own, and in a way it chronicles my immigration and identity reclamation journey. I hope anyone who's been through something similar can also hear their story in it.”
Known for her self-described ‘electric blue witch-hop’, Estère continues to carve out a distinctive musical identity, effortlessly fusing electronic experimentation, Afro-fusion and R&B. Having collaborated with the likes of Jordan Rakei, Oddisee and Nightmares On Wax, alongside sharing stages with Grace Jones, Erykah Badu and Hiatus Kaiyote, she has firmly established herself as an exciting and innovative creative force.
With its infectious energy and heartfelt message, ‘Diaspora Baby’ is a powerful reminder that home is something we carry with us, wherever life takes us. It's also an enticing first taste of what promises to be a fascinating new chapter for Estère.
