Koralle & Yawuh ft: Saib – Nuwa (Single)
Italian jazz-beat duo Koralle and Yawuh are teaming up for their first collaborative album Primo Quarto, landing 24th October on LP and digital formats. The artwork comes courtesy of Tokyo illustrator Tomo Oriyama, while the latest single Nuwa features Berlin-based producer Saib.
Written and recorded in their Bologna apartment block – Koralle on the fourth floor, Yawuh on the first – the 13-track project blends smoky jazz textures with crisp beats and late-night energy. Friends and collaborators join the fold, including Italian musicians Matteo Magnaterra, Piergiorgio Perrella, Giovanni Tamburini and Gianluca Arcesilai, plus US MCs Anti Lilly, Tiff The Gift and Physical Graffiti.
The title refers to the first quarter of the moon – “a balance between light and dark, the seen and the hidden,” the pair explain. You can hear this balance in tracks like Shangri-La: earthy soul jazz with guitar, bass, synth and brass arranged around a steady groove, conjuring a nocturnal, utopian cityscape.
When not working with Koralle, Yawuh runs Beat’s Tailors and plays in jazz/hip-hop group Unword. Koralle, meanwhile, has become one of Italy’s most distinctive beatmakers, from his experimental Bassona project with Francesco Giampaoli to the acclaimed Eat The Kiwi Skin with London MC Isatta Sheriff.
Primo Quarto promises to be their most complete statement yet – a modern jazz-beat record where Bologna nights meet lunar cycles.
