Kwoli Black - Sorry For Your Loss (Mixtape) + 10 Questions

Kwoli Black Prepares to Drop Debut Mixtape Sorry For Your Loss.

Kwoli Black is stepping into a new chapter with his debut mixtape Sorry For Your Loss, landing 5th September 2025. The project follows his Can I Speak EP and a run of striking singles including Spirit Pt. 1, Trouble and Rumours.

Far from a typical mixtape, Sorry For Your Loss feels like a personal statement. Kwoli moves between love, heartbreak, bravado and reflection with unflinching honesty, weaving sharp lyricism through soulful, moody, and experimental production. “This tape is about growth, the good, the bad, and the ugly,” he explains. “It’s honest, it’s messy, and it’s real.”

The tracklist brings together collaborators Kojey Radical, KeepVibesNear, Jay Malakhi, Ayeisha Raquel, Maia Reid, and Sym, each adding their own touch while Kwoli’s voice stays at the centre.

To mark the release, Kwoli hosted a special launch show on 4th September at The Social in London, offering fans the first live taste of the project. With support already rolling in from BBC Radio 1, 1Xtra, Reprezent, and outlets like COLORS, Clash and Wonderland, Kwoli Black is solidifying himself as one of UK rap’s most compelling new voices.

Kwoli Black sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer our infamous 10 Questions:

1. So tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music?

I guess my love for music started from the womb, maybe just afterwards but I remember as a child my house would be filled with the sounds of so many artists from Fela Kuti to Tupac and even Ray Charles. I grew up playing instruments like the guitar and piano so the love has always been there. It wasn't until my late teens/early 20's that I discovered my love for making music myself. I was a spoken word poet initially, then I met my best friend/producer JSTRNGS and I guess the rest is history.

2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?

I draw a lot of inspiration and influence from different artists and these influences sort of blend or cross over different genres. The likes of Tyler, the Creator, Kendrick Lamar, Ghetts, Little Simz, Duckwrth and OscarWorldPeace exist as artists that both influence me and I would love to work with.

3. You are about to drop your debut mixtape "Sorry For Your Loss”, what can fans expect from the mixtape?

Fans can expect a genuinely authentic body of work. It is both an amalgamation and chronicle of my experiences with love, faith, trauma and sex. At times the tape is almost comical in the moments of nonchalance, but at others it can be rather heavy and emotionally charged. However most importantly it sounds really really good.

4. you have a massive track - Streets with Kojey Radical, how did that collaboration come about?

Well most people close to me or I guess close to the both of us are aware that we share a rather unexpected friendship akin to brotherhood. That's my big brother, but also my mentor and a source of inspiration and guidance. When making the mixtape I often leaned on his experience and knowledge of making music. I was in the studio one time with STRNGS and he was cooking up a beat and I started to rap this hook "i'm outside with my g's, I been running through the streets" and started to build on it until the hook existed. Then we thought about who would be a good addition to the song and I instantly thought of Kojey. I'll admit I didn't expect him to do it but he really liked the hook and the beat when I sent it to him. After that we hit the studio, he laid down his verse and I had to do my best to match it. I'm a rapper so by nature I wanted to best him but also not disappoint him, and myself. I did alright. We got time to come where I spin him out of his tabis.

5. What's your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?

Releasing Sorry For Your Loss.

6. Do you have any advice for our readers who may be trying to play the mad game of music?

Absolutely not. I am still trying to figure this shit out myself. You just gotta trust yourself, learn and evolve. Don't be afraid of being told you suck. Cool, you suck, get better. Listen to the pros, learn, accumulate experience, any kind and just make music that makes you feel something. Forget the listeners. They will arrive when they are supposed to. And if your music is real, then they will arrive and stay. I guess that was kind of advice but yeah. I'm still trying figure this shit show out.

7. Are there any artists on your radar right now that we should check out?

Yeah definitely, KeepVibesNear, BINA, Elsa, Taylr, SAMSON, Raheaven, Jords, Jay Malakhi and Cari spring to mind. And Kwoli Black, heard a couple tunes, he's decent.

8. What albums are on heavy rotation on your Spotify playlist currently?

Mercston - 646, Tyler, the Creator - Don't Tap The Glass, Little Simz - Lotus, Duckwrth - All American Fuckboy.

9. What do you like to do when you're not making music?

Sleep. I just wanna sleep. I'd sleep right now if I wasn't doing this interview. And watching Arsenal. When I'm not sleeping.

10. Name Three things you can't live without when in the studio?

Well I don't think I can say one of them but, mood lighting, a couch and a bag of sour patch kids.
