UMI Returns with New Album people stories and Single “RIGHT/WRONG”.

Rising R&B talent UMI has released her new album people stories, with the focus track “RIGHT/WRONG” now accompanied by a nostalgic, MTV-era-inspired video. Known for her velvety vocals and tranquil songwriting, UMI once again blends soul, R&B, folk, and pop into something uniquely her own.

“RIGHT WRONG” was written as a freestyle, inspired by a conversation with her mum. UMI explains that her mum taught her to listen to her inner voice without judgement: “There is no right or wrong in life—only what feels good and what doesn’t.” The song captures that guidance, playing like a dialogue between UMI and her higher self, reminding us to trust our hearts and lean on those we love.

Across people stories, her debut project on Epic/Ministry of Sound Records, UMI explores themes of identity, healing, ego, and connection. Inspired by fans, loved ones, and strangers alike, the record weaves together intimate narratives with live, unpolished performances—imperfections left in as a tribute to life’s messiness. Even her therapist’s voice makes an appearance, grounding the songs in honesty and reflection.

For UMI, storytelling is central: “We all live very similar lives, same colours, slightly different hues. Writing this album reminded me of how colourful the human experience is—even the darkest shades can be healing when shared.”

Born in Seattle to a multicultural, musically inclined family, UMI first found her audience online with intimate acoustic covers. Now, with people stories, she steps into a new chapter, offering music that feels both personal and universal. Through vulnerability, she creates a space where listeners can see themselves—and be reminded they’re never truly alone.
