Gwamz sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer our infamous 10 Questions:
1. So tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music?
It all began in church when I was 11. I started playing the drums, and that was my first real connection to rhythm and live music. By 13, I was producing, just experimenting and teaching myself how to build sound from scratch. Then came songwriting, and I released my first song at 17. Music was always my first love, the one constant that gave me freedom to express.
I’ve always been drawn to the complexity and texture of music, especially contrapuntal elements. When different melodies move independently but still work together harmoniously. That’s how I see my journey too, all these different phases, growing at the same time, feeding into each other to create something whole.
2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?
Burna boy has been a big influence to my music style as his Melodies and pockets are something that I have studied and taken away with me.
H.E.R is also someone I would love to work with. Her songwriting is some of the best I have heard ever and I think our styles would gel perfectly but it’s something that nobody would really expect.
3. What projects do you have coming up and can you give us any info on them?
I have just dropped my debut EP titled ‘Life of The Party’. This project has been in the works for a while now so now being able to finally to release a body of work to give to people makes me proud.
Life of The Party is a statement, everybody can be the life of the party. Although this project could be seen as being for the ‘girlies’, there are topics I cover in the project that men can relate to also.
4. How would you describe your sound?
I would describe my sound as ‘sexy’. My sound has a bounce to it and you can’t help yourself but dance and feel that way, especially for the women who listen to my music.
5. What's your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?
I would definitely say releasing my debut EP!
6. Do you have any advice for our readers who may be trying to play the mad game of music?
I would say just be original. Authenticity is so important as an artist, it makes you who you are in general but within music it sets the foundation of what your music is.
7. Are there any artists on your radar right now that we should check out?
There are quite a few I could name. FromJerome has been making some noise following his project he dropped last year. He’s next up in the UK RnB scene for sure.
Jedz is definitely one to watch out for sure! He’s got a lot of intricate flows and melodies so I am very excited to see what he does in the future.
8. What albums are on heavy rotation on your Spotify playlist currently?
At the moment KWN’s new project is on repeat. That is one of the best bodies of work I’ve heard this year. Genezio has just dropped an album also, I have been listening to that a lot on rotation.
9. What do you like to do when you're not making music?
I really enjoy gaming. I’ve been a gamer since I could remember, and have played at competitive levels in the past. Streaming is something I want to get into properly, intertwining it with the gaming is the next step for me.
10. Name Three things you can't live without when in the studio?
Water, Vaseline and at least one snack.
