Werkha - Toast Rack (Single)
Werkha Announces New Album ‘Unsung Irregular’ with Stunning First Single “Toast Rack”.
Manchester-based producer, multi-instrumentalist and DJ Werkha (aka Tom Leah) returns with “Toast Rack”, the first single from his upcoming album Unsung Irregular, out October 10th via First Word.
Deeply personal and sonically rich, Unsung Irregular is a project shaped by Werkha’s experience of living with scoliosis. Blending soulful grooves with raw emotion, it explores how music and movement can act as a balm for pain and a catalyst for healing.
“Toast Rack” began life as a piece created for a local dance initiative led by Werkha’s longtime collaborator Yandass Ndlovu. Named after the iconic Fallowfield building, the track evolved from choreography into a full-bodied sonic journey—cinematic, jazzy and just the right amount of uneasy.
It’s the perfect introduction to an album that celebrates resilience and the beauty in imperfection. With rich acoustic textures, off-kilter rhythms and moments of euphoric release, Werkha translates physical experience into sound in a way that’s both intimate and expansive.
Featuring previous singles “S-Bend” and “Everyday” (with Ríoghnach Connolly), the album has already caught the ears of tastemakers at BBC 6Music, Worldwide FM and beyond.
In Werkha’s words: “This album is about giving voice to those fighting quiet battles daily… I hope that through my music I’ve created a space for people to feel like they can talk about their own irregularities.”
Expect analogue jazz-funk fused with UK electronics, live instrumentation, and the signature groove that’s made Werkha a go-to name for fans of broken beat and genre-blurring club sounds. With a vibrant live show and an impressive resume of collabs and remixes (Quantic, Bryony Jarman-Pinto, Andrew Ashong), Werkha continues to carve his own singular path.
‘Unsung Irregular’ drops this October—and if “Toast Rack” is anything to go by, it’s going to be one of the most emotionally resonant and rhythmically captivating records of the year.
