DHANYA Steps Into the Spotlight with Debut Solo EP Afraid of Winter in Summer.
After years of crafting genre-blurring soundscapes alongside names like Juju Rogers, douniah, Mick Jenkins, Kiefer, and Phabo—not to mention his work as one half of Modha—German producer and multi-instrumentalist DHANYA is finally stepping out under his own name.
His debut solo EP, Afraid of Winter in Summer, is the result of a two-year journey and feels like an emotional compass for those wrestling with change, anticipation, and the push-pull of light and shadow. Drawing on Berlin’s seasonal extremes, the record explores how even in moments of warmth, the weight of what's to come can linger.
Musically, it's classic DHANYA: lush, textured, soulful. The EP features a stellar cast—douniah, snny, anaiis, Azekel, ROMderful, theMIND—each artist adding their own lens to his introspective vision. Standouts include Wait, Hold On, a smoky opener with douniah’s velvet vocals, and To Be Found, where anaiis and Azekel float over cinematic strings and dreamy rhythms.
But it’s the closing track, Stay With Us, that hits deepest—a quiet tribute featuring DHANYA’s father on guitar, recorded while he was battling cancer. It’s a soft, intimate end to an EP that’s both emotionally weighty and sonically expansive.
Afraid of Winter in Summer is more than a debut—it’s a declaration of identity, a showcase of artistry, and a promise of more to come.
