Odeal - The Summer That Saved Me (EP)
Odeal Returns with “The Summer That Saved Me” – A Soundtrack of Freedom and Self-Discovery.
MOBO Award-winning artist Odeal is back with The Summer That Saved Me — his most personal and genre-fluid EP yet. True to his rhythm of releasing two EPs a year, this summer’s instalment feels different: freer, more joyful, and deeply rooted in reflection.
Crafted after scrapping two full projects, The Summer That Saved Me captures a turning point in Odeal’s life — marked by receiving his British passport and regaining the ability to travel freely. That renewed mobility inspired a creative and emotional rebirth, reflected in the EP’s sun-drenched soundscape that blends Afrobeats, soul, R&B, and Afro-Latin rhythms.
The project spans continents: from writing “Miami” on a Spanish beach with longtime collaborator Harry Westlake, to tracking much of the EP in a DIY studio setup in his LA apartment. It’s here that standout tracks like “London Summers” and “My Heart” came to life, surrounded by close friends, collaborators, and a feeling of boundless possibility.
At its core, The Summer That Saved Me is about reconnection — with self, family, and creativity. Tracks like “Obis Interlude” and “Deserving” bring moments of stillness and vulnerability, while “Standby” and “Patience” embody the playful spirit that runs through the project. It all closes with “In The Chair,” a sensual slow-burn that brings Odeal’s vision full circle.
Born in Germany, raised between Nigeria, Spain, and the UK, Odeal’s music lives at the intersection of cultures — and this EP feels like a passport to them all. After a stellar year that’s included two MOBOs, a BET nomination, and co-signs from the likes of SZA, Victoria Monét, and even Justin Bieber, Odeal is ready to take this summer global, with tour stops across Europe and the U.S.
If this is the summer that saved him, it might just be the one that defines him too.
