Yoni Mayraz Returns with Expansive New Album Dogs Bark Babies Cry.
After turning heads with his breakout EP Rough Cuts and acclaimed debut album Dybbuk Tse!, jazz innovator Yoni Mayraz is back with Dogs Bark Babies Cry — an ambitious, genre-blurring LP arriving September 5th via PPK Records (run by Pino Palladino & David Passick).
Known for blending 90s hip-hop, Middle Eastern textures, and experimental jazz, Mayraz continues to push boundaries on this new record. Joined by bassist Tom Driessler (Yussef Dayes, Adele), drummer Zoe Pascal, and guests including Fly Anakin, Tenderlonious, Miriam Adefris, and JSPHYNX, Yoni explores themes of anxiety, desire, and cultural memory through cinematic grooves and raw, analog energy.
Written in the wake of global travels and recorded over three days at the legendary Konk Studios in North London, the album pulses with both urgency and introspection. From the blissfully chaotic first single Rooftops, to the eerie, flute-led Ghostown! with Tenderlonious, and the anxious jazz-rap of Ice Cold featuring Fly Anakin, every track channels Mayraz’s signature vision: emotive, forward-thinking jazz that reflects the times we live in. He now releases Run and Blue Ambulance ahead of the album.
Highlights like Run, Family Affairs, and Exarcheia tap into cityscapes, personal relationships, and the noise of modern life. The final track, Mushroom Hour, leaves listeners with a botanical, ambient wash — a moment of stillness in an otherwise frenetic ride.
Dogs Bark Babies Cry is not just a follow-up — it’s a statement. One that confirms Yoni Mayraz as a vital force in contemporary jazz.
