Yorke - Technicolour (Mixtape) + 10 Questions

Yorke finally unveils the long awaited tape, “Technicolour”. This project marks the artist’s most ambitious creative leap to date, with standout tracks such as “Heaven”, “Cinema Verite/Ending Credits”, and “There Is A Light” exemplifying his evolving artistry. The tape also highlights Yorke’s growth as a rapper, with tracks like “A Trinidadian Werewolf In London”, “Seasons”, and “Grimy” showcase his most confident, razor sharp lyricism yet. The creation of “Technicolour” was further enriched by contributions from Di-Vincent, Sol Paradise, Ghais Guevara, dan PARTIES, SIRA, and Anman, each delivering memorable moments throughout the project.

Yorke describes the process of making the tape saying: “I wanted to make a project that reminded me of all of my favorite movies as a child”.

Inspired by the technical process that made “The Wizard of Oz" the first colour film, “Technicolour” deeply resonates with Yorke’s love of visual arts and film.

Yorke continues to cement his place in the UK underground rap scene, with previous singles such as “210 breezy”, “mirrors”, “St. Clair”, and “Survival” earning support across international listeners, particularly in his native Trinidad & Tobago.

Technicolour” is now out on all streaming platforms including but not limited to Spotify, Apple Music and the iTunes Store.

Yorke sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer our infamous 10 Questions:

1. So tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music?

I started playing viola in an orchestra when I was 8 or so, and that really opened my eyes to the possibility of making music. By the time I was 13 I’d started to make beats to send them out to rappers. I’ve always really loved Rapper/Producers so when I started I wanted to be MF Doom or Kanye West.

2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?

I’d love to work with Vegyn, I think that guy is a real genius. Him and Flying Lotus really impacted my production style; they gave me a love for really textured, weird synthesisers in a Hip-Hop context. Lyrically I’ve always loved Kendrick Lamar, Isaiah Rashad etc.

3. What projects do you have coming up and can you give us any info on them?

I got a mixtape called Technicolour that’s about to come out. I’m really proud of it; we’ve been working on it for nearly 2 years. It sounds like all the music I loved in 2015, plus 10 years of expertise in making my own sound. I think it’s my best music to date. Apart from that, I’ve got the second issue of my magazine (ButuMag) about to launch in January.

4. How would you describe your sound?

Progressive Rap I guess, I’m trying to push the music that I love into a more detailed and layered place. I have a really broad taste in music so I’m always trying to re-contextualise things into Rap Music.

5. What's your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?

Playing my first headline show in 2023. My mother was in the crowd and she was blown away at how many people showed up to hear me play songs I made in my room, that meant a lot to me.

6. Do you have any advice for our readers who may be trying to play the mad game of music?

Make real relationships with people, not just transactional ones. Work with people you actually want to work with, and try to be as useful as you can be. People want to work with people who can help them, so try and find as many ways to be helpful as possible.

7. Are there any artists on your radar right now that we should check out?

Sumaya Nazar, Implicit, Liim & Ceebo.

8. What albums are on heavy rotation on your Spotify playlist currently?

I went to see Clipse last week &  I’ve been listening to their newest album on repeat for months, definitely my favourite album this year. Late Again by Sven Wunder & Blair Babies by Ceebo as well.

9. What do you like to do when you're not making music?

I write a lot; I run my own magazine, so when I’m not making music I’m usually writing or designing for that. When I’m not doing anything creative, I play a lot of video games hahaha.

10. Name Three things you can't live without when in the studio?

Peppermint Tea, Playstation 5 and access to direct sunlight.
