Dan The Drum ft: Carmy Love - Hurt So Bad (SHLJ Mix) (Single)

Dan The Drum & Carmy Love Reimagine a Soul Classic for 2025.

Little Anthony & The Imperials’ 1965 gem Hurt So Bad has seen its fair share of stunning reworks over the decades – from Grant Green to Etienne de Crécy. Now, just in time for the song’s 60th anniversary, London producer and DJ Dan The Drum breathes fresh life into the soul staple with rising star Carmy Love, one of the capital’s most exciting voices in modern soul.

Their take is pure dancefloor soul – lush, groovy and full of class. With keys from Darren Morris (North Street West), jazz guitar from Joseph Nesbitt-Larking, and a silky sax from Carl Davies, this F*CLR release is a sophisticated, feel-good groover built for soulful nights. A selection of remixes is also on the way from the likes of Terry Jones, Leo Zero and North Street West – so watch this space.

Dan The Drum – aka Dan Spalding – is no stranger to the scene. From East End roots to sets alongside legends like Norman Jay MBE and Craig Charles, he’s been championing soul, funk and house since his teens. His past productions, including JazzCazz with Ronnie Turner & Emma Noble, and UK House Sermon with Stu Patterson and Carmy Love, have earned solid support across BBC 6 Music and beyond.

As for Carmy Love, her voice speaks for itself. Since launching her solo career in 2021 with the widely supported Rebel’ / ‘Thinkin’ About You, she’s built a name as one of the UK’s most soulful vocalists. With deep roots in R&B, gospel and lovers rock, and collaborations with the likes of Laville and the House Gospel Choir, Carmy brings both passion and pedigree to this standout cover.

A classy celebration of a soul classic – with a modern twist.
