Owelu Dreamhouse: A Soulful Reconnection.
Owelu Dreamhouse (pronounced Oh-WAY-lew) marks a beautiful reunion between vocalist Nkechi Anele and multi-instrumentalist Nic Ryan Glenie, the creative duo who first made waves in the iconic Melbourne soul outfit Saskwatch.
Rekindling their musical chemistry, the pair have crafted something entirely fresh: a sound that blends cinematic soul, psychedelia and Afrobeat, shaped by reflections on culture, identity and heritage. The project’s name is inspired by Nkechi’s grandmother’s Nigerian village, Owaelu, a personal nod that roots the music in deep family connection.
Their debut single ‘Stutter’, out today via Hopestreet Recordings, draws influence from Cameroonian legend Manu Dibango and his 1972 classic Soul Makossa. It’s a groove-driven track that radiates joy and freedom, born from hours of listening, experimenting and dancing through West African rhythms.
As Nkechi explains, “Through this process, Nic and I began to really understand the flow of the Owelu Dreamhouse sound. It’s about freedom, energy and shared expression.”
Produced alongside Henry Jenkins (Karate Boogaloo, Surprise Chef, Ella Thompson) and brought to life by a vibrant ensemble of Naarm musicians, ‘Stutter’ pulses with the same unbridled energy that once fuelled Saskwatch’s legendary live shows.
Having cut their teeth on festival stages from Glastonbury to WOMADelaide, Nkechi and Nic are once again channelling their boundless creative spirit, this time through the vivid world of Owelu Dreamhouse.
