Danny Sanchez - It Is What It Is Til It Isn’t (Album)

One of the most exciting emerging rap talents in London right now, Danny Sanchez, follows up recent singles “Live It Up” and “Sometimes” with his highly-anticipated debut album, It Is What It Is Til It Isn’t — out now.

Continuing his unique blend of sonic innovation and thoughtful, original bars and lyricism that has made the Brixton-raised rapper, singer-songwriter one of the most eye-catching-new names of the past few years, Danny Sanchez now drops off his most impressive release yet, a ten-track, genre-bending debut album. Consisting of four previously released singles including “Ice Tea”, which has already amassed over 300K Spotify streams and counting, the project boasts a plethora of unreleased tracks which immaculately infuse a range of London sounds including UK Garage, alternative R&B and underground Rap. Produced alongside long-term collaborator Kxmel, the new album effortlessly displays Danny Sanchez’s distinctive style, outlining a narrative of nostalgia and early personal experiences dipping into fashion and love interests alike through his unique tone and seemingly ambivalent cadence, luring the listener in, only to impress with refined ad-libs and smooth overtones. From the softer notes of lead single “Flash” to the lyrical ability on “Blessings” — which sees the Londoner pay homage to his Spanish-Paraguayan roots, switching between English and Spanish — the album continues to showcase a rare, subtle talent that underlines Danny Sanchez as a significant new artist in the landscape.

Communicating a narrative of nostalgia and a personal life that leans heavily into creativity, fashion and love, It Is What It Is Til It Isn’t follows on from the youngstar’s previously released singles such as “Ice Tea” (300K+ streams) and “Running Out”, which has received remix treatment from house DJ Gee Lee, helping extend his Spotify monthly listeners to a cool 110K+. Over the past few months, Danny Sanchez has also received a slew of support across radio, including plays from CassKidd on BBC 1XTRA, BBC INTRODUCING, CAPITAL XTRA, RINSE FM and BALAMII, as well as tastemaker support from the likes of NOTION and CLASH.

Since first making waves in 2019 with his first official release, the independent artist’s consistent drip of releases has seen notable waves on the underground, gaining over 3M streams in 2021 and going on to collaborate with the likes of Amsterdam’s legendary D&B producer Lenzman on “Gimme A Sec”, Bawo for “Brasileiro”, as well as features alongside Ashbeck and Bel Cobain. More recently, Danny Sanchez featured on The Silhouettes Project’s latest acclaimed full-length with “No Fumar”, preforming live for their release party at The Standard in collaboration with CHAMPION. The Brixton-native has also been busy playing key sets at the likes of Distortion Festival in Copenhagen, and selling out two headlines in Birmingham and Brighton.

Danny Sanchez’s potent, thoughtful, unmistakably London sound points to a gifted musicality and mindset beyond his years. With a considered eye on both music and fashion, and the kind of deeper introspection across his flow that underlines a keen intelligence, the Londoner looks set to continue the growing attention around him as one of the UK’s most exciting homegrown talents.
