Chinwe - Down (Single)

East London’s Chinwe loses herself to love on the club-ready rhythms of new single “Down”.

“You’re like a drug to me” she muses on the track's opening, beckoning the listener to join her on the dancefloor. “Down” is enriched with hedonistic grooves and the rhythmic sway of bodies, and yet despite the romantic indulgence Chinwe is seeking for reassurance - searching for solace after the high.

“I wrote ‘Down’ about being in a new relationship and those initial feelings of infatuation”, Chinwe explains. “Even when you’re in that phase, sometimes at the back of your mind you wonder if that person will still be around when things aren’t perfect and you’re no longer riding that high.”

Releasing her sophomore EP Fall at the end of 2023, “Down” marks a new direction for Chinwe. The track glitters with the anticipation of infinite city nights - flooded with late night euphoria.

Inspired by genre crossing musicians and rich, jazz-filled compositions, Chinwe’s song-writing is wrapped in introspection and self-reflection. Using music to make sense of the world around her, each release is an exploration of her thoughts and feelings - candid and unapologetically sincere.

Exposed to an eclectic range of music from an early age, Chinwe cites Nina Simone and Massive Attack amongst some of her biggest musical influences. The self-taught musician started producing songs as a teenager before experimenting with songwriting as another outlet for her creativity. During lockdown she began her journey with the harp, an instrument which featured heavily on her sophomore EP and continues to shape her sound today.

Catching the attention of Complex, Wonderland, Record of the Day,METAL, BBC 1XTRA (Jamz Supernova) and BBC Introducing (Tom Robinson), “Down” is an elixir for the lovers.
