PREMIERE: SOUKOU - Family (Single)

There’s no question that the subject of romantic love is ubiquitous in music so it’s refreshing to hear a song dealing with a different type of love. Everyone has a family whether by blood or by acquisition but either way it doesn’t get celebrated enough for the strength it provides us with. Luckily Soukou is here to remind us to be grateful and appreciate the moments with the ones we love.
She has a background in dance music which I think you can hear in the song delivery and structure but this is definitely a song and not a club anthem as it stands.
She’s got a rich, slightly raspy (in a good way) voice. The kick drum adds to the determination of the message in the track. The production of the whole track is really quite elegant with subtle elements adding to the track without vying for attention. It’s a very remixable track so it’ll be interesting to see where she goes with that. Watch this space! Words: Kate Vice
Formidable artist SOUKOU returns with the release of her powerful new single Family, out 28th April 2023.
Written as an ode to families everywhere - in whatever capacity that may be - SOUKOU’s warm, intimate lyrics feel instantly relatable. SOUKOU elaborates, “I wrote this song about four years ago when I found myself at rock bottom and having to start over. As a result a lot of my family decided I wasn’t worthy and left. I found myself being picked up from my chosen family, the greatest security net someone could ask for. This song is about sacrificing oneself for the sake of the bigger picture. It’s not just about my small little family, it’s about all of us. We are all made to give and to care about each other no matter what - blood related or not - there is room for all of us in this world”. Combining celestial synths with SOUKOU’s soul-infused vocal, this release captivates instantly.
SOUKOU - aka Ena Soukou - is currently based in Berlin. From 2007 - at the tender age of nineteen - she conquered the clubs of Berlin as Ena Wild with her fusion of techno and electronic beats. Ena also works as a songwriter and has toured internationally with various circus productions whose soundtracks she composed herself. With Family, SOUKOU hopes to captivate listeners further with her unique blend of soulful synth-pop.
Family is the second single to be taken from SOUKOU’s forthcoming EP, due for release on 21st July 2023.
