Lovelle - I Can't Stop Thinkin Bout U (Official Video) + 10 Questions

South East London talent Lovelle has unveiled brand-new single ‘I Can't Stop Thinkin Bout U’, out 16th November on her label Moody Inc. The track was premiered by DJ Target on BBC Radio1Xtra last night.

Written by Lovelle and Grammy award winning songwriter Ryan Ashley with production by Fergus Martin, ‘I Can't Stop Thinkin Bout U’ was penned during lockdown, in an effort for Lovelle to overcome a recent heartbreak. Propelled by her sensual, impassioned vocals, it’s a track that is steeped in emotion. The heart-wrenching, monochrome official video - directed by London based filmmaker Kemi Anna Adeeko - features Kojey Radical playing the part of Lovelle’s love interest. A long-time friend, he was the only person she envisaged taking up the role.

Her first release since her 2020 debut EP Therapy, ‘I Can't Stop Thinkin Bout U’ has already garnered early support by the legendary DJ Target (BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra). Coming from a musical background that saw her begin to sing during her earliest years in school, the South-East London hailing Lovelle went on to attend the The Mick Jagger Theatre and Sylvia Young Theatre School to better her talents, before being discovered on MySpace by an A&R, having uploaded her demos onto the site. Since then, Lovelle has gone on to be supported by radio tastemakers including Trevor Nelson, Twin B, DJ Target, Dj Ace, Annie Mac and Fearne Cotton, finding a fan in John Legend, whilst going on to open for the likes of Miguel, Bob Sinclair, Keri Hilson and brit winner Becky Hill, who she also opened up for at the Brits.

Away from music, Lovelle is also signed to BRIDGEMODELS which has led to endorsements with the likes of Asos, Savage x Fenty, Pretty Little Thing, New look, Bravissimo, Reebok, Adidas and Nike. She made her debut at LFW 22 - walking for Karoline Vitto alongside Alva Claire and being featured in publications such as VOGUE, DAZED, I.D, THE FACE, GRAZIA and HYPEBEAST. Her first release in over two years, ‘I Can't Stop Thinkin Bout U’ is the start of an exciting new chapter for Lovelle.

Lovelle sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer our infamous 10 Questions:

1. So tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music?

The earliest memory I have is watching Nirvana on my tv screen and hearing Kurt Cobain singing ‘In Bloom’. I felt those chords in my chest and seeing all these people play these instruments, creating a sound, transferring feelings into something physical for people to have. It blew my mind.

2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?

Frank Ocean, Sza, Inflo, Dave, Kendrick, James Blake, Sampha, Thundercat. The list could go on for real! for real! But I’m excited for the day all this shit happens.

3. What projects do you have coming up and can you give us any info on them?

I’m currently working on my 3rd EP. I have my next single ready and when i tell you, you’re about to see the Lovelle that everyones knows, you know the in your feelings, sensitive Lovelle but with Vim.

4. How would you describe your sound?

It’s mad because I never feel like i’m able to pin point my ‘sound’. I write like an RnB singer, very soulful in how I deliver but also lowkey gritty and raw with the shit i’m saying at times. I guess RnB would be the category i’d love to be in, i just feel like my ‘sound’ is a new reformed RnB that is still transitioning.

5. What's your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?

Performing with Becky Hill at Brixton to a sold out venue of 5000 people. I walked that stage it was my home. Ive gone there so many times and will be going to watch my favourite artists. I’m ready and looking forward to when I sell Brixton out.

6. Do you have any advice for our readers who may be trying to play the mad game of music?

This shit is not normal, word to my homie Kwame Augustine and low key mentor at times. The industry is a fucking scam lol. To achieve things that are not the norm, you need to things that are beyond what you feel is comfortable. I wake up everyday obsessed over music, I love it. If you don’t love it, you’re in the wrong place. You will propel if you’re passionate about doing a job even if it doesn’t pay you. Thats not to encourage poor behaviour with the bullshit we endure sometimes in this industry but I know this from experience and watching others. You get far in this life if you do something not focusing on about what it could get you, but how it makes you feel.

7. Are there any artists on your radar right now that we should check out?

Everyone knows and if you already don’t SAULT, they’re a gift from God, truly. Also my brother Kidbookie. I don’t have to explain much you’ll get him once you listen to the music.

8. What albums are on heavy rotation on your Spotify playlist currently?

You know what i’ve started listening to Pip Millet and im really enjoying her. She just released ‘When everything is better, i’ll let you know. One of my favourites on there is the song walk away.

9. What do you like to do when you're not making music?

I love water, so you’ll find me near that. Water humbles me, its powerful and spiritual. If i ever go missing, look around London and you’ll find me chilling in an art gallery or at indoor rock climbing. I love to cook and be home you know. I love hosting and just giving to people I love.

10. Name Three things you can't live without when in the studio?

I don’t necessarily think its things I can live without, it think its more so what I need to be able to do or feel. So I need my shoes off, so I can ground myself. I need to be sat on the floor at times and I need conversation to ease myself into a comfortable place. AND I love movement, I move around a lot.
