PREMIERE: Driftwood. ft: Still Greedy - Bremfields (Official Video) + 10 Questions

Driftwood. is a producer, singer-songwriter and music video director from Sydney, Australia. Since his debut release in 2015, he’s been captivating his audience through with his output of contemporary rnb and soul paired with personally curated video productions. Visuals for his latest single “Bremfields” with UK rapper Still Greedy are out now.

The visuals for "Bremfields" are self-directed by Driftwood. and represent the ebb and flow, the push and pull, of energies which are then manifested within the material universe. It features his friends and collaborators, DOP Matt Scott Chow Was, and Ben Covro. By keeping a small team, they are able to get things done without interfering with the flow or wasting time with a larger production crew which is viewed as unnecessary for what he is trying to accomplish.

Driftwood. sat down with Wordplay Magazine to answer our infamous 10 Questions:

1. So tell me, how did it all begin? What sparked your love for music?

I’ve always had passion for all things creative. I’ve always found it easy to engage in creative pieces of work, both as a spectator and as a creator. Dad gave me an acoustic guitar and taught me a few Bob Dylan songs when I was 11 or 12.

I went to a boarding school in America, just outside of Los Angeles and a lot of the kids in there were musicians or loved music. Music has always been a big part of my life in one way or another. 

Sometimes finding a new artist is like finding a portal to a new paradigm of reality, it can completely open your scope of perspective and reality.

2. Who are some artists that influence you and that you want to work with in the future?

I’d love to work with Ye, Fred Again, Skepta, Gassaflestein, Frank Ocean, Brent Faiyaz, Mike Dean, Nao, Bon Iver, Rick Rubin, Flying Lotus, Drake, Noah Shabib, Floating Points, Section boys, blanco, DC, Chris Stapleton, Jacob Banks, Goldlink, DVSN, The Code, The Blaze, 070 Shake… too many to say.

3. What are some of the problems you have faced making and releasing the music during the corona virus pandemic?

I’m fairly self-sufficient, I produce and track my own vocals. I also Direct and edit my videos so locking away and isolating is something I am used too. In saying that, there are some collaborators and people I work with that I could not do without.

It affected everyone differently - I just had to respect and give certain collaborative friends space based on their circumstances. I found it tough at preparing for Videos and had to cancel a few shoot days. On the flip, it did open the door to becoming more efficient online collaboratively.

4. How would you describe your sound?

That’s tough - Contemporary R&B with Hip Hop and Electronic influences.

5. What's your proudest moment to date so far as an artist?

Each piece of work I finish is my proudest moment. I put a lot of time and care into the songs and videos and give and take a lot of like out of the work itself. The work itself are my accolades to date.

6. Do you have any advice for our readers who may be trying to play the mad game of music 

I’d just say work at your craft. Create as often as you can as consistently as you can. Protect your space and energy. Work with people who are better than you. Work with good people. Don’t let the failed dreams of others seep into your reality no matter how much of an authority they may seem. Don’t let popularity and status be a guiding post for anything you do creatively.

Don’t chase popularity - the perspective of others doesn’t authenticate your narrative.

7. Are there any artists on your radar right now that we should check out?

So many. Australia is really alive atm - specifically in Sydney. There are too many incredible artists and producers coming through from Sydney.

Some artists I love from the UK are Fred Again, DC & The Code. Also, too many great Drill guys to name.

8. What albums are on heavy rotation on your Spotify playlist currently?

I don’t listen to a lot of albums if I’m being honest. I listen to a lot of esoteric stuff. I pick songs and moments and listen to those. I love old Motown artists like Sam Cooke, Spencer Wiggins I can listen to them for days on end. I also listen to a lot of UK drill - probably more than anything else.

9. What do you like to do when you're not making music?

I like staying active. I love the ocean. I have a lot of hobbies outside of music.

10. Name Three things you can't live without when in the studio?

My chair (I wish I could plug the brand, but I don’t know it) I bought it from some crazy German furniture shop. Best studio chair I ever found.

My hard-drives (I have a tower of them old and new) - they are the holy grail.

Water - Lately I been drinking tons of sparkling water, lol.
